Welcome to the world of Gator Dining Services, the official food service provider for the University of Florida. Studies of college students across the nation consistently show that students who eat and live on campus are more involved, have higher grade point averages and are more likely to graduate than students living at home or off-campus. Dining centers are great social hubs and provide an easy way to make new friends.
We offer two types of plans: 1) Meal Plans 2) The Declining Balance Account. Both plans work off a magnetic strip on your student ID card (Gator 1 Card), so once you get your card, there’s nothing more you need to do. When you purchase your meal plan, your account will automatically be activated. At our residential dining centers, you will find state-of-the-art dining concepts including a Mediterranean Kitchen, American Bistro, Gator Grille, World Flavors, Vegan Corner, espresso cafes, ice cream, and more. Our two residential dining centers, Fresh Food Company (located next to Broward Residence Hall on Inner Road) and Gator Corner Dining Center (located on the corner of Gale Lemerand Drive and Stadium Road), feature upscale, authentic foods from around the world, made fresh right before your eyes. But don’t worry; we also have all your favorites too, like oven-roasted turkey, carved honey ham and burgers.
In 2014, UF Dining Services was voted #1 in the Nation for the Most Vegan-Friendly Large American College by Peta2. Since then, we have received an “A+” grade on their Annual Vegan Report Card. The food at both these locations is “unlimited seconds,” including salads, sandwiches, entrees, vegetables, fruits, beverages, and desserts. In addition to the fantastic food and selection, dining at the residential facilities is also extremely flexible. If you don’t have time to sit down and eat, you can always get your meal to go!
Types of Meal Plans
The Open-Access Meal Plans
The Open-Access Meal Plans are recommended for all resident students and is the most economical and flexible way to eat on campus! Choose from 5-day access (Monday through Friday) or 7-day access (7 days a week) – depending on whether or not you plan to go home on weekends. No need to count how many meals you’ve used or how many you have left. No extra cost to hang with your friends over lattes! Gator Dining’s Open-Access Meal Plans provide you with a VIP pass to UF’s residential dining centers – any time of day or night the facilities are open. It’s more than breakfast, lunch or dinner. You’ll make new friends over lattes or meet your study group in the evening for ice cream. Or, if you’d prefer, you can just bring your laptop and surf the net using our free wireless internet and if you don’t have time to sit down and eat, you can always get your meal to go!
With the Open-Access Meal Plans, you are welcome at Gator Corner Dining Center and the Fresh Food Company as many times as you like either 7 or 5 Days per week depending on which plan you choose! Your Open-Access meal plan can also be used daily with the 7 Day Open-Access Meal Plan or Monday-Friday with the 5 Day Open-Access meal plan for one cash exchange meal swipe valued at $6.50. This cash exchange meal swipe is available anytime of the day for one meal per day. Locations that accept the cash exchange meal swipe include Au Bon Pain, Boar’s Head, Camellia Court Café, Chomp It, Croutons, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Freshens, Jamba Juice, KFC Express, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Papa John’s, Pollo Tropical, Rising Roll, Salad Creations, Shake Smart, Subway, Wendy’s and Wing Zone. If you spend over $6.50, the difference will come out of your Flex Bucks account.
For those students who do not need Open-Access and prefer to purchase a set number of meals per week, we offer a meal plan that provides 10 meals per week, Thursday-Wednesday. With the 10 Meals Per Week plan, these meals are only redeemable from The Fresh Food Company and Gator Corner Dining Center only.
Commuter Meal Plans
There are three options for non-resident students – the 65, 35 or 30 Block Commuter Meal Plan. These small, convenient meal plans allow non-resident students to enjoy on-campus dining at a discounted price. Each block of meals rolls over on a weekly basis and the meals are redeemable at The Fresh Food Company and Gator Corner Dining Center exclusively. Additionally, both the 65, 35 and 30 Block Commuter Meal Plans include Flex Bucks which are accepted at all Gator Dining locations on campus.
Returning this year is the Home Chef Meal Kit that accompanies the 30 Block Meal Plan. With this option, you can eat on campus and cook at home! Choose from 18 fresh recipes that rotate weekly and come with pre-portioned ingredients and simple to follow recipes. Create and plate delicious meals in about 30 minutes! By purchasing the Home Chef Meal Kit, you automatically receive a One Hundred and Twenty Dollar ($120.00) credit with which you can purchase meal kits from Home Chef, a third-party meal kit delivery service. After you have purchased your meal plan, you will be contacted by DiningServices@Aramark.com via e-mail with instructions regarding how to redeem your $120 credit, and Home Chef will ship your meal kit to the address you designate. You may redeem your $120 credit at any time. The $120 credit for the meal kit is non-refundable.
Commuter meal plans are for one semester only and both of these plans are available exclusively to non-resident students.
Flexibility to Dine at Other Locations!
One of the great things about the Open-Access Meal Plans is its flexibility. Along with the meals at the dining halls and the cash exchange locations, your plan includes a special declining balance supplement called Flex Bucks. Depending on the option you choose, you’ll get between $250 – $450 per semester to use at any of the other dining locations on campus including Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, and convenience stores. The 10 Meals Per Week plan comes with $550 in Flex Bucks per semester to use at any on-campus dining location.
Meet, Greet, & Eat!
It’s often difficult being away from home for the first time and making new friends. As the residential dining centers are conveniently located close to many of the residence halls on campus, they are a natural gathering spot for students to meet, greet, and eat. Join your neighbors for coffee, a meal, or a late evening snack. What better way to get acquainted?
Choosing the Right Option For You
With the 7 Day Open-Access Plan, the average price for unlimited meals and snacks per access is only $3.89! With the 5 Day Open-Access Plan, the average price for unlimited meals and snacks per access is $4.97!
For those students who do not need Open-Access and prefer to purchase a set number of meals per week, we offer the 10 meals per week option, which averages about $7.15 per meal.
Not sure that the Meal Plans will fit your new campus lifestyle? Don’t worry – there is a grace period at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters during which time you may convert the prorated value of your meal plan to a Flex Bucks Account. All you have to do is come into the Gator Dining office and fill out the conversion form. So, you have nothing to lose by trying out one of these plans!
In addition, those students who join a fraternity or sorority that has its own mandatory meal plan component may apply for a prorated refund of their Residential Meal Plan at any time during the semester. You may also apply for a prorated refund if you withdraw from school. Note: refunds are prorated to the date we receive all required paperwork. Please call our business office for additional details. View the Fraternity and Sorority Refund Policy for more information.
Receiving Student Financial Aid Awards?
If so, you may be able to eat now and pay later. You may qualify to defer payment of your meal plan if the expected amount of your financial aid award is large enough to cover your meal plan plus the amount of your tuition, campus housing expenses and any bookstore deferment you may have chosen. Please call Gator Dining Services for additional details (352-392-2491).
